Threod and First Shield signed a memorandum of understanding during the World Defense Show in Riyadh to cooperate on advanced unmanned aircraft system solutions for both civilian and military applications in Saudi Arabia.
The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration on technology development and integration aimed at supporting the Kingdom’s evolving defense requirements and strengthening its domestic capabilities.
Focus on Integrated UAS Capabilities
Under the terms of the MoU, the companies will explore integrating Threod’s Eos C VTOL system as a core element of a comprehensive surveillance solution to be delivered by First Shield.
The partners will also assess opportunities to supply additional Threod systems—including aircraft launchers—to military users in Saudi Arabia while examining options for partial or full localization of manufacturing within the Kingdom.
Supporting National Defense Objectives
First Shield’s leadership described the agreement as a significant milestone aligned with Saudi Arabia’s objective of sourcing 50 percent of its military supply chain domestically.
Company officials noted that while certain advanced technologies must currently be sourced internationally, partnerships such as this provide a pathway to strengthen local capabilities and accelerate industrial development.
Long-Term Strategic Collaboration
Executives from both firms highlighted that their cooperation began several years ago and that the formalization of the relationship marks a new phase focused on delivering practical capabilities for defense and security stakeholders.
They emphasized confidence in the long-term potential of the partnership and its contribution to national security and technological advancement.
Industry Context
The agreement reflects a broader trend in defense markets toward cross-border industrial partnerships that combine advanced technologies with local production and integration. Such collaborations are increasingly central to modernization programs and national localization strategies across the Middle East.
