Buraq Air, Libya’s first private airline, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus for the acquisition of 10 A320neo Family aircraft, marking its entry as a new Airbus customer and a major step in the carrier’s fleet modernization strategy.
The agreement was signed during the Dubai Airshow 2025 by Fouzi Almiqalh, General Assembly President of Buraq Air, and Benoit de Saint Exupery, EVP Sales for Airbus Commercial Aircraft.
According to Almiqalh, the A320neo Family will be central to Buraq Air’s plans to expand its network and enhance operational efficiency. He added that the aircraft will also create a unified platform for stronger collaboration with Medsky Airways, supporting joint service improvements across both airlines.
Airbus welcomed the deal, noting that the agreement reaffirms the A320neo Family’s position as the leading choice for airlines seeking fuel efficiency, flexibility, and reduced emissions. The aircraft delivers at least 20% lower fuel burn and CO₂ emissions compared to previous-generation single-aisle jets, and offers one of the widest cabins in its class.
The A320neo Family—comprising the A319neo, A320neo, and the larger A321neo—remains the world’s most successful single-aisle aircraft line, with over 11,300 orders from 150 customers as of October 2025. All Airbus aircraft, including the A320neo Family, can operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with Airbus targeting 100% SAF capability by 2030.
The agreement marks a significant milestone for Libya’s aviation sector and signals Buraq Air’s commitment to modern, efficient, and environmentally aligned fleet development.
