President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, accompanied by First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva and their daughter Leyla Aliyeva, visited the Alley of Honors on Thursday to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the passing of Heydar Aliyev, the architect of modern, independent Azerbaijan.
President Aliyev laid a wreath at the National Leader’s grave as a mark of respect, followed by the playing of the National Anthem of Azerbaijan. Senior state officials and representatives also attended the solemn ceremony.
Heydar Aliyev, widely regarded as the founding father of contemporary Azerbaijan, played a pivotal role in stabilizing the country during the post-Soviet era, shaping its political institutions, strengthening national identity, and laying the groundwork for long-term economic development. His leadership continues to influence Azerbaijan’s strategic direction and governance framework.
The annual commemoration reflects the enduring significance of Heydar Aliyev’s legacy in Azerbaijan’s state-building journey and his central role in guiding the nation through periods of transition and modernization.
